FAQ’s

What Is Occupational Therapy (OT)?

OT helps children do what they want and need to do. It enables them to achieve what they physically need in order to function in everyday life. Our occupational therapists are trained to assist children aged between 0 and 18 to perform purposeful tasks that occupy their lives.

An occupational therapist works from the bottom up. We look at the child’s environment, sensory processing, muscle tone, positioning, co-ordination and other areas to ascertain what is inhibiting your child’s skill acquisition and development. Once the areas of difficulty have been identified, the therapist works on these underlying factors in a positive and encouraging way, to improve the child’s skills and independence.

When Is OT Necessary?

If you, or any of your child’s caregivers (including paediatricians, teachers, family members) are concerned about your child’s development, or if your child is falling behind their peers and struggling at school, you may wish to contact an occupational therapist.

What Is Sensory Integration?

Sensory Integration is the process of how the brain organizes sensory input from the body and the environment and uses this to perform effectively. We receive information from all our senses (including sight, smell, sound, taste, touch, movement, and pressure). Once this information reaches the brain it must then be organised for use in adaptive responses.
